From a situated perspective, Sophie Pouille constructs a lexicon of forms. Writing systems, architecture, craft techniques, objects and images become elements of a living vocabulary, with each work constituting a new pronunciation. Through drawing, painting and glass painted, engraved or shaped she shifts systems of representation from one field to another.
Through its transparency and its ability to receive light, glass extends drawing into space and situates it within its environment. Like any translation, each work transforms what it brings into relation, leaving the viewer free to choose their own reading.
